Heritage Cornwall Ltd 'the' Restoration Specialists

Formerly Darrock & Brown Ltd;
In early 2014 the three directors decided the time was right to update the company image to better reflect the projects in hand and those about to be worked on. After a long period of change over the last five years or so, with much Heritage Lottery funding going to the 2012 Olympics, we were forced into different paths to follow. We still manage to work on churches, other listed buildings and mine engine houses but the focus is now on a varied diet.

The name change now says that we are still builders as well as being conservation and restoration contractors.

  • Bill Gladwell
    estimating, client/architect, matters/finances/ attends meetings/Managing Director
  • Arthur Britton; contracts manager/responsible for all projects on day-day basis/attends all meetings with clients and architects/Director
  • Peter Wherry; foreman mason based on larger projects running one or two projects if necessary/Director
  • Jess Stephens Bsc: Jess joined the management team in late 2013 and has proved her worth ever since. She is now mainly linking with Bill and Arthur on all matters to do with running projects as well as attending meetings and meeting clients. Her previous experience has been invaluable to the continuing success of the business.

Main interests are in projects requiring sensitive skills, attitude, repairs, consolidation and conservation.

Project values range from small to large!

Work force currently 22, all ‘employed’. Nine of current team have come through our apprenticeship scheme. We employ carpenters, masons, and semi-skilled labourers.

We have close links with other contractors such as monumental mason/electricians/lead plumbers/carpenters as and when the need arises.

We work with stone, bricks, cob, lime mortars and renders; oak on churches and other notable buildings.

Our philosophy is repair, conserve, and consolidate with, above all, save the building!

We cover the whole of Cornwall and West Devon as a matter of course but have travelled further afield, even to Ireland to work on Cornish Engine Houses as well as a church.

Our aim is to continue with the excellent work we have done over the last twenty or so years; to consolidate our reputation for high quality at a fair price, backed up by a strong team of committed directors and works team. We aim to continue in training apprentices, each year, to bring on more skilled tradesmen under our direction to a clearer understanding of what makes and ‘old’ building into a more durable and longer lasting ‘old’ building.
